Maybe Pray for a Miracle?
All too often we, as humans, are faced with difficulties and struggles in our lifetimes. It's nothing any of us want. When we do pray, we usually pray for a resolved answer in our favor, but why not pray for a miracle? When critical situations occur, we often pray that the event goes well. While that is still good, maybe we should pray for a miracle?
Just because something that seems concrete is handed to you, like being dealt a diagnosis of cancer, it doesn't mean you just have to deal with it. Maybe pray for a miracle? You don't just have to pray that treatment goes well, but you can also pray that it disappears with God's power.
God cannot say "yes" to every prayer. He answers each prayer in His own timing, but He could not allow each person's desire to happen, because then it would be their plan, not His. People tend to look at the human perspective, only seeing what we can without knowing God's plan. I really like the song Breathe by Jonny Diaz, and these lyrics are so, incredibly, true: "Lay down what's good and find what's best." There are times where we have to let go of what we think is best for us, and let God show us what really is. That could be a job, a relationship, a car, friends, a house, success . . . Only God knows what's best for each and every one of us. So, He can't say yes to every prayer, but He does know the absolute best for each of us.
It's like being given the option of pursuing your dream job, but one place offers a low salary while another offers a very high salary, even though they're both the same job. I think people perceive miracles as extremely rare or that they only really happened in Bible times. In fact, God doesn't just perform huge miracles, like raising someone from the dead, but He cares about the little things, too.
Miracles are very relevant today and God can work them through us. Maybe pray for a miracle?
