Winter
Winter comes with many bad things. It's the simple truth. It's much colder, it's rarely pretty and the snow just looks dirty, it's much more dangerous to drive, the skies grow darker for longer, and this all can add to just feeling down. This is my adult version of winter.
The kid version of winter looks something like this: catching snowflakes on your tongue, going sledding, building snowmen, snow angels, snowball fights, Christmas time and all that brings, and so much more. It's really not that bad. Just a little too long.
"If you choose not to find joy in the snow, you will have less joy in your life but still the same amount of snow" (Walt Humphries). I love seeing this shared by people online every winter. It's a great reminder, because if you know me, you know how much I hate driving in the winter. To be honest, if driving was the same amount of safety for us here as it is in the summer, I would not hate winter as much as I do.
The time of posting this is getting closer to spring. Who knows? Maybe there will be plenty of fresh snowfall or maybe it will be super nice out? Either way, you know which one I'm hoping for, haha!
With all of that said, I kind of want to be a snowbird someday (someone who lives in a warmer state during the winter and comes back in the spring). My grandma does this and my heart is jealous every time! The dream is to get a condo in Florida and live there January through April. That's the dream. Who knows what real life will bring!
My state is really strange with winter. Some days you can experience all four seasons, and that's not even a lie. You can experience snow (winter), rain (spring), heat (summer), and chilly but not too cold temperatures (fall) all in one day, and it's not rare for it to happen all in one week (happens multiple times every year and it's still weird to me).
But would you really love horrible heat? Good question, probably not. But I really hate the idea of having to bundle up just to go outside for 1-3 minutes. But I am on the team of "I'd rather it be too cold at night or during the day, cause you can always bundle up and get warm." It's a lot harder to cool off when your environment is way too hot. One could argue that some places end up having really dead and sad looking foliage in the winters, and those people would prefer snow. I think a lot of the people who prefer snow haven't lived with it all their lives.
You can't have it both ways, unless... you're a snowbird :)
Who knows what I'll do in the future? Maybe when I have kids, I'll actually learn to love snow again. That would be great. I don't think anything could make me not hate driving in the winter, though, which is my biggest complaint.
But God made all four seasons for a reason. And what is that reason? I do not know, and I will not even attempt to guess. It's uncontrollable. And that's why we have to leave everything in His hands.
